1) Voting

In order to vote in federal elections, such as for the President of the United States, you need to be a US citizen. Beyond federal election; most states restrict voting in any election to American citizens.

2) Bringing Family Into The Country

When attempting to get family members into the country; the government generally looks at citizens prior to non-citizens.

3) Obtaining Citizenship For Children

Whether abroad or in the USA, children born to American citizens are usually considered American citizens. Here is a link that explains citizenship for children through their parents.

4) Eligibility for Grants, Scholarships, and Other Government Benefits

College Scholarships, Financial Aid grants, and certain government benefits are only given to US citizens. Although things like Workers' Compensation is a benefit allowed to all workers, illegal immigrants or citizens, various other benefits are specific to citizens.

5) Residency

Once you become a citizen of the country, you have a right to remain in the country.
